which function should/recommended be used for string encryption?

PhpDecrypt/PhpEncrypt() or Decrypt/Encrypt()

You may use Decrypt/Encrypt() for string in general, use PhpDecrypt/PhpEncrypt() for more sensitive info (not password though).
